Help fund a therapy session

Everyone deserves someone to talk to.Not everyone can afford it.

Between rent, groceries and everything else, therapy is often the first thing people put off. Your contribution goes into Valisen's subsidy fund, which lowers session fees for people who need support but can't cover the full cost.

Why this matters

When money is tight, therapy is often the first thing to go.

It might be a student paying rent on a part-time income, a parent weighing a session against the grocery bill, or someone who knows they need support but can't justify the cost this month. The need doesn't go away. The appointment just keeps getting pushed back.

A 50-minute session at Valisen costs $160–$180. For someone already stretched, a subsidy can be the difference between booking and waiting.

Where your money goes

One fund, used only to make sessions more affordable.

  1. Contributions are pooled

Every contribution goes into one subsidy fund. It is not assigned to a named person, which keeps the people receiving support private.

  2. Need is assessed at the free consultation

When someone reaches out, Valisen assesses financial need during the free consultation, subject to the subsidy funds available at the time.

  3. The fund covers part of the session fee

For an eligible client, the subsidy pays part of the session fee and the client pays the remaining agreed amount.

  4. Unused funds stay in the fund

Money that isn't assigned right away stays in the subsidy fund for future subsidized sessions. It isn't used for any other purpose.

What the suggested amounts mean

Because contributions are pooled, an amount isn't tied to one person or session. These comparisons use Valisen's standard $180 fee for a 50-minute session.

  • $20Every contribution adds to the pooled subsidy fund.
  • $50Helps lower what someone pays out of pocket for a session.
  • $80A meaningful share of one session's fee.
  • $180Equal to Valisen's standard $180 fee for a 50-minute session.

Questions before you contribute

Where does my contribution go?
Contributions go to Valisen's subsidy fund, which reduces session fees for clients facing financial barriers. Contributions that aren't assigned to a client right away stay in the subsidy fund for future subsidized sessions. They aren't used for any other purpose. Stripe's standard processing fee is deducted from each payment. The remainder goes into the subsidy fund.
How does Valisen decide who receives subsidized care?
Valisen assesses financial need during the free consultation, subject to available subsidy funds. The subsidy covers part of the session fee, and the client pays the remaining agreed amount. Details about the people who receive support are kept confidential.
Can I contribute any amount?
Yes, within $5 and $5,000 per online payment, in whole Canadian dollars. Choose one of the suggested amounts or enter your own. For a larger contribution, email info@valisenmentalhealth.com.
Is my payment secure?
Yes. Payment happens on Stripe's secure checkout page. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by Valisen.
Will I receive confirmation of my payment?
Yes. After a successful payment you'll see a confirmation page, and a payment confirmation is emailed to the address you enter at checkout.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Valisen Mental Health does not issue charitable tax receipts, so please don't plan on claiming this contribution as a charitable donation. You'll receive a payment confirmation by email instead.
How do I request a refund or get help with a payment?
If you made a mistaken or duplicate payment, you can request a refund by emailing info@valisenmentalhealth.com within 30 days of the payment. Include the date and amount so the team can find it. Requests are reviewed by the Valisen team. For any other question, email info@valisenmentalhealth.com.
