Do you offer therapy in languages other than English?
Last reviewed: June 2026
The language in which therapy happens is not a neutral detail. The depth of emotional access, the precision of self-expression, and the safety of the therapeutic relationship are all meaningfully affected by whether you are working in your first language. At Valisen, therapy is available in both English and Mandarin.
Languages currently available
Our team currently offers therapy in English and Mandarin. For Mandarin-speaking clients, sessions are available with a bilingual Registered Psychotherapist. When booking, please indicate your language preference so we can match you with the right therapist.
Why it matters
Many people who are fluent or highly proficient in English still find that certain experiences, emotions, or memories are encoded in their first language. This is especially true for childhood experiences, intergenerational patterns, and identity-related material. Working in the language that holds those experiences can make the therapeutic process significantly more effective.
For Mandarin-speaking clients, working in Mandarin can make it easier to describe family dynamics, migration and cultural adjustment, and personal concerns without translating every detail first.
